How to plan a cheer fundraising mix

Every program's funding mix is different. This guide offers a simple review framework — Keep, Improve, Replace, Add, Time — to think through what you already do. It is an educational tool, not automated advice.

Mix over single wins

One fundraiser does not define a plan.

A single fundraiser that worked well for one program does not establish how it will perform for another. Review your own methods against your own gap and timing, and build a mix that fits your community.

Keep

Methods that reliably contribute and that families and supporters are comfortable with.

Improve

Methods worth keeping that could work better with clearer goals, timing or communication.

Replace

Methods that take a lot of effort for little contribution, or that no longer fit your community.

Add

A channel you do not use yet, such as sponsorship, if it fits your rules and capacity.

Time

When each method runs relative to the date funds are actually needed, including approvals and ordering.

The sequence

Four steps, in order.

  1. 01

    Gap

Know the amount the plan must cover.

  2. 02

    Review

Sort current methods into Keep, Improve, Replace.

  3. 03

    Add

Consider one new channel if capacity allows.

  4. 04

    Schedule

Place each method on the calendar before the deadline.

Fundraising results vary by program, community and timing. This framework is educational only and does not predict or promise results.

Coach questions

Clear answers before the request.

What is the best cheer fundraiser?
There is no universal best. Results depend on your community, timing and effort, and one program's result does not predict another's.
How many fundraising methods should we use?
Enough to cover the gap without exhausting families and volunteers. Many programs use a small mix rather than one large event.
When should fundraising start?
Early enough that funds are in place before ordering deadlines. The order timeline helps you work backward.
